John came to WAMPO in 2002 with over twenty-nine years of experience in local government planning, business planning, and real estate planning and development. Previously he served as the Director of Comprehensive Planning for Clark County, NV (Las Vegas). He moved to Las Vegas in 1990, when he was recruited as the Deputy Director of Planning & Development for the City of Las Vegas. In these roles, working in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the nation, he faced an abundance of complex community development and growth issues. Before moving to Nevada, John and his family lived in Florida, where he worked for the developer of a 42,000-acre master planned community. He enjoyed that opportunity to help plan and develop a new oceanfront community and learned the art of business planning. Originally from the Philadelphia area, John started his planning career in Pennsylvania. He and his wife spent two years in the Peace Corps in Venezuela. He now resides with his wife of 34 years in Wichita. Their two grown children live in Nevada and Wichita. John graduated with a B.A. in Public Administration from Penn State and earned his Masters degree in Urban & Regional Planning from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
