Freight
|
Approved 03-09-2010
Freight movement plays a significant role in the WAMPO region. Goods are shipped by truck, rail, air and pipeline into, out of and through the region. According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the amount of freight that is transported is anticipated to nearly double by 2035. As a response to this, many regions have begun to incorporate freight planning into their transportation planning process.
WAMPO completed a freight plan for the region in 2010 that looks at how much freight is moving into, out of, and within the region. In addition, it addresses how freight impacts the transportation system and vice versa.
