Congestion Management Process (CMP)
|
Everyday areas throughout the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO) region are prone to congestion due to crashes, weather, construction, capacity issues, and special events. Not only does congestion cause additional expenses related to gasoline and travel time; air quality can suffer greatly as well. Metropolitan areas are looking for innovation ways to reduce congestion and provide the most efficient transportation system.
Process In 2011, WAMPO updated its Congestion Management Process (CMP). This replaces the previous CMP developed in 2008. The Transportation Policy Body adopted the CMP Policy, which outlines the process to manage regional congestion. Click to view the CMP Policy.
Report WAMPO also developed the 2011 Congestion Report. This report identifies congested areas and likely causes. This report will aid in decision making, especially when developing and selection projects to mitigate congestion. Click to view the 2011 Congestion Report.
Mitigation Options WAMPO updated the Congestion Management Strategy Toolbox. This Toolbox provides a menu of options to manage regional congestion, focusing on alternatives that do not add roadway capacity. Click to view the Congestion Management Strategy Toolbox.
