The Transportation Enhancement (TE) Program is a federal program aimed at funding community-based projects that expand travel choices and enhance the transportation experience by improving the cultural, historic, aesthetic and environmental aspects of our transportation infrastructure. Program categories include:
- Historic;
- Scenic and environmental; and
- Pedestrian and bicycle.
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is in charge of the TE program. A set amount of funding is awarded to projects through a statewide competitive process. Project sponsors within WAMPO boundaries are required submit applications to WAMPO as well. WAMPO is required to send a letter of consistency to KDOT indicating if the projects are consistent with the present long range transportation plan. In addition, according to the WAMPO TE policy, the projects are also prioritized.
