Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning

2012 Bicycle-Pedestrian Counts

Thanks to the willingness of over 60 volunteers, WAMPO's first regional Bicycle - Pedestrian Count was a success!  People from a variety of organizations volunteered to count the number of bicyclists and pedestrians at 35 sites across the greater Wichita area in September 2012.  At each of the sites, volunteers manually counted the number of bicyclists and pedestrians over the course of two hours on two different days - one weekday and one weekend day.  The project goal was to collect data that was representative of actual levels of biking and pedestrian activity in the region.

2012 Count Data by Site

This data will be used to track usage on bicycle and pedestrian facilities, monitor the locations where bicycling and pedestrian activity take place, and inform future and on-going bicycle-pedestrian planning initiatives.

 WAMPO Regional Pathway System Plan

Adopted September 2007
Updated December 2011

The Regional Pathway System Plan (RPSP) identifies primary east/west and north/south corridors that connect most of the communities in the WAMPO region.  These regional corridors create a framework for biking facilities and help lay the foundation for identifying missing links.  The regional corridors can be looked at as a backbone system that connects existing and future bicycle/pedestrian facilities.
